Rising Sons

Rising Sons is a short documentary film about a radical and unique approach to end the rampant raping of women in The Democratic Republic of the Congo: by healing the wounds and beliefs of men. This intimate film provides an opportunity to witness the evolution of the masculine and address the root causes of a universal cycle of violence.

City of Joy

The Democratic Republic of Congo has endured 20 years of devastating violence. Rape has been used as a weapon of war to destroy community and access precious minerals. Congo is often referred to as “the worst place in the world to be a woman.” CITY OF JOY tells a different story of the region.

The film focuses on Jane, a student at a center where women who have suffered unimaginable abuse join together to become leaders. We also meet the founders of the center: a devout Congolese Doctor (Dr Denis Mukwege, 2016 Nobel Peace Prize nominee) a Congolese activist (Christine Schuler-Deschryver) and a radical N.Y. playwright (Eve Ensler, author of The Vagina Monologues).

The film weaves between joy and pain as these individuals band together to demand hope in a place so often deemed hopeless.

Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, which sent nearly 120,000 Americans of Japanese ancestry, most of them American citizens, to hastily built prison camps. Two of those camps were in Arkansas: at Rohwer and Jerome, both rural communities located in the Mississippi River Delta, a land of already deep racial divide. Relocation, Arkansas explores the events that forever altered the lives of American citizens imprisoned in the Deep South, the irony of prejudice, and the power of reconciliation.

Relocation, Arkansas - Aftermath of Incarceration

In 1942, President Franklin D.

Docs Grp 3: Rising Sons & City of Joy + Q&A

BE RELENTLESS

On May 4, 2014, Norma Bastidas, a single mother and fearless survivor of human trafficking, sexual violence, abuse and addiction, shattered the Guinness World Record for longest triathlon by running, biking, and swimming 3,762 miles (6,054 km) from Cancún, Mexico to Washington D.C. as her stand against human trafficking. Norma’s mission is to educate and empower, demonstrating to the world that one’s past does not dictate one’s future, and prove that everyday people are capable of making extraordinary strides in the fight against the problems facing the world today.

Be Relentless is the binational, bilingual, feature-length documentary that captured every grueling step of Norma’s record-breaking expedition across two countries. Through Norma’s persistence, Be Relentless proves that everyday people can make an extraordinary impact in seemingly unchallengeable issues.

Be Relentless will capture conversation about the realities of child trafficking, inspire the world to address this issue, prevent what happened to Norma from happening to others, and prove to survivors and the to world that one’s past doesn’t dictate one’s future.

From commercial cricket farms to bug eating festivals and lawmakers on capitol hill it includes interviews with the UN, USDA, Climate Foundation and TV chef Andrew Zimmern.
